The month focuses on increasing awareness of breast cancer\, encouraging appropriate screening and early detection\, supporting people affected by breast cancer\, and highlighting ongoing research. \n💗 Important facts to share\n\nBreast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States\, after skin cancer.\nAnyone with breast tissue can develop breast cancer\, including men.\nSome people with breast cancer have no signs or symptoms\, which is one reason screening is important.\nPossible warning signs include a new lump in the breast or underarm\, breast swelling or thickening\, changes in breast size or shape\, nipple changes or discharge\, skin dimpling or irritation\, and breast or nipple pain.\nMammograms can help detect breast cancer before it is large enough to feel or cause symptoms.\nCurrent CDC guidance says women 40–74 who are at average risk should get a mammogram every two years\, based on the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation. Individual screening decisions can vary\, so people should talk with their healthcare provider.\nCDC’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides free or low-cost screening for eligible women with low incomes.

DESCRIPTION:This year\, we’re celebrating 60 YEARS of Maple Leaf with the theme “Maple Leaf Meets Main Street: Celebrating 60 Years!” \nEvery year\, on the 3rd Saturday of October\, the biggest day of the festival begins with the largest parade in Southwest Missouri. This keystone event begins at 9 a.m. and ends around noon. The parade begins on the Historic Square and ends at the Carthage Jr. High. \nEvents are scheduled throughout the day including the band festival\, art & crafts vendors\, car and tractor shows\, wine tasting\, quilt show\, food vendors\, and live entertainment. \nThe month of October is filled with activities including art and museum exhibits\, lobster boil\, bike tour\, carnival\, evening 5K\, beauty pageants\, dog show\, chicken pageant\, gospel sing\, cruise-in\, costume ball\, and a lip-sync competition.
